The common question that gets asked in business is why. That’s a good question. But, an equally valid question, is why not? Says Bezos. The person whom I will be talking about was born on January 12, 1964 in New Mexico. Since childhood, he showed high-interest in figuring out how things work which urged him to turn his garage to a laboratory.
In the meantime, he started his own business, the Dream Institute. This is an educational summer camp for students in 4th, 5th, & 6th grade. He graduated from Princeton University with computer science and electrical engineering degree. Then, Bezos worked in Fitel, Bankers Trust and the investment firm D.E. Shaw.
Even though his career in finance was profitable, he moved into e-commerce field. Bezos came up with the idea of starting an online bookstore. On account of that idea, he left his job at D.E in late 1993. A year later, he opened his new company Cadabra. The name Cadabra was changed into Amazon. He invested in Amazon by accepting $300,000 from his parents.
Although, he started as an online bookstore, he wanted to expand his company to sell other products. After launching, Bezos along with a few employees started to develop software in his garage which was later expanded into a 2 bedroom house. Within a month, Amazon.com sold books across the United States and in 45 foreign countries. The company sold such books without any media promotions.
In 2 months, the company reached $20,000 per week. Bezos and his team did not expect such progress. Amazon.com went publicly trendy in the year of 1997. After 2 years, Amazon has become the leading e-commerce.Bezos continued to offer various items on Amazon. By the end of September 2018, Amazon was the 2nd company to hit the record after Apple.
