Do you know what is happening to sea turtles these days? HMMM.... Most of us may know about it, SEA TURTLES ARE ENDANGERED! Anyone know why? IT’S because of US !!! HUMANS. WE are polluting our mother nature in many ways. Companies like Wildlife Trafficking Alliance, South Carolina Sea Turtle Rescue Program, and many others are trying their best to save sea turtles. Still, they are fighting to save those beautiful turtles. The main reason seas are getting polluted by trash, especially plastic....
“Over 1 million marine animals including turtles are getting killed because of marine debris,” says the University of Queensland. Sea turtles take a really important role in the ocean basin by protecting healthy seagrass beds and coral reefs...providing key home ground for other marine life... helping to balance marine food webs and facilitating nutrient cycling from water to land. Sea turtles are not only getting killed by humans… but also different animals… like tiger sharks and killer whales feed on turtles. Fish, dogs, seabirds, raccoons, and ghost crabs eat turtle eggs.
What can we do to help save the turtles? WE can be reducing marine debris that may be entangled or be accidentally eaten by sea turtles.Participating in coastal clean-ups at your local beaches can help reduce the debris...Carrying reusable water bottles and shopping bags... Keeping nesting beaches dark and safe for sea turtles to live. Let's put aside our electronics and put on our shoes and go to the beach and lets SAVE THE TURTLES!
