Are phones good to have in the classroom?

 Cell phones being in the classroom have been the idea and conversation that many have had with each other. Students, parents, and teachers all have the same question. Are phones good to have in the classroom? We are going to take an intersection into that. Hello everyone! My name is Abdul Jabbar, the motivational speaker and in today’s video, we are going to talk about whether phones are good to have in the classroom.

Claim:  Cell Phones should not be allowed in the classrooms for learning.

1st reason: Cyberbullying is more likely to start.

Evidence for reason 1:

Texts, voicemail, and online posts create new contact points which never existed before. 2nd reason: Students will start texting each other.

Teens who spend 5 hours on a cell phone have a 71% higher risk of suicide compared to those who spend one hour per day. What makes this even worse is the easy access to a plethora of information that is readily accessible at the tap of a finger. Sadly, cyberbullying has resulted in many school children taking their own lives due to peer pressure and bullying. Keeping that in mind, schools and parents need to come together to take a stand against the use of cellphones in schools to protect their children and promote their physical and psychological well-being in and outside the classroom.” this supports the reason why kids should not have phones in class because of suicide.

1st reason: Emergencies

Evidence that supports the reason for If there is a fire, they can contact parents or other people. In the article “Should you let your kids have a cellphone in school?” by Edward. C. Braig, USA TODAY. In, “The case for allowing phones in class” it states “Safety concerns are also often given as a reason to let kids have devices at school. When there’s an accident or tragic incident, the presence of phones lets parents gets in touch with teachers and/or students.” Phones at school: Should kids be allowed to have them in class?

3rd reason: Organization/Reminders

Evidence for the reason why kids should have phones in class for keeping tabs of their work and setting reminders, in an article called “6 Reasons Why Cell Phones Should Be Allowed in School” it states in “More Organized Students” says “Cell phones can help the students be more organized. Through the use of cell phone students can develop their plans in calendars. They can set alarms about their timetable towards leisure and study time. Through the use of cell phone students can create organized notes folders. They can read their books in free time with the help of e-books on the cell phone. Thus they can save their time and be more organized” supports the reason why students should have phones inside the classroom.

Reason 4: More affordable

Evidence for the reason why kids should have phones in class because it’s more affordable than computers, in an article “ The 10 Reasons Why Cell Phones Should Be Allowed in School” it states in Cellphones Are Much Affordable Compared To Laptops” says “As of now, the current technology in mobile phones is almost like that of a laptop. With a smartphone, students can be able to do their research projects just like they would with a laptop. The phones are even far more convenient as they are much portable and remarkably affordable. If you visit many classes right now, you’ll be surprised to find all the kids has a cell phone of their own or at home. But a significant percentage has even never touched the keyboard of a desktop PC. So, allowing cellphones in school will help to enhance the learning techniques of students and much accessibly.” it supports the reason for its more affordable than computers.

The 10 Reasons Why Cell Phones Should Be Allowed in School

Counterclaim: I know that people say that cell phones have helpful tools for students, But I believe that Cyberbullying is a very very bad thing that happens with phone use, which causes many things to happen with the victims, like suicide, etc. I think it much more preferable to not have phones in the classroom. 

Conclusion: In conclusion, Cell Phones should not be allowed in the classrooms for learning. The reason why I think my side is right is that phones can be very very harmful to our society and can cause harm to other students. It can cause phone holders in class to have their phones are stolen or taken away, etc I think that it is better to no have any phones in class.
